Service Description
At Hollis Threads, we know that making a quilt can seem like a daunting task. That's why we've created our "Let's Make a Quilt" class. In just three class sessions, we'll teach you how to make a beautiful quilt from start to finish using the Villa Rosa Designs Kalinda pattern. Class one focuses on making the quilt top, class two covers quilt sandwiching and basic quilting, and class three is all about finishing touches. Whether you're a beginner or just looking to increase your confidence, we've got you covered. Join us at Hollis Threads and let's make a quilt together. Class Description and Supplies: Class 1: Making a quilt top, you will need: -Pattern (provided) -Fabric- the pattern we are using calls for 8 fat quarters or 23 10” squares and a contrasting color that is 5/8 of a yard. For the contrasting color, I recommend buying a little bit more, maybe a full yard, in case you make a mistake and need more fabric. You can always use what is remaining for your binding if you don't need it. -Cutting mat- the more room on your mat, the easier for you. The 18”x24” is a good standard size -Rotary cutter- a 45mm or 60mm is a good size -Ruler, I recommend a 6”x24” ruler -Thread for piecing, I recommend a 40wt-50wt cotton thread and this thread should be a neutral color -Seam Ripper (this will be your new best friend) -Straight pins or clips - tape measure -Scissors -Iron -Ironing surface -Starch We will use most of these items in each class. Starch is a preference, not everyone uses starch. I will go over it in class and you can decide if you want to use it. Class 2- Basting and Quilting, we will not be using everything from class 1 but we will be using most of it so bring all supplies listed above. -Bring your completed quilt top -Safety Pins or Basting Spray- you can choose your preferred method. I will explain the difference in class 1 so you can decide which you want to try -Batting- throw size -Fabric for backing- you will need 3 yards -Blue painters tape- we don't need much, if you have an open roll at home, bring that. -coordinating thread for quilting Class 3- Binding and Finishing your quilt - Fabric for binding 1/2 yard
